HDD & Pipeline Installation

John Holland

Upper South Creek Advanced Water Recycling Centre – Pipeline Installation
The Pipelines Team played a crucial role in the ongoing development of the Upper South Creek Advanced Water Recycling Centre, successfully transporting and installing a 243-metre pipeline string through the streets of Bonnyrigg Heights and Green Valley. This critical infrastructure project is part of a broader initiative to enhance water management and recycling capabilities in Western Sydney.

The Job
The video captures the intricate process of transporting and installing a 243-metre pipeline string through Bonnyrigg Heights and Green Valley. It highlights the coordination required to maneuver the massive pipeline on 18 specialized trolleys and seamlessly pull it into a borehole using horizontal directional drilling (HDD). The final edit features ground-level footage, drone shots, time-lapse sequences, and key project highlights, optimized for web, social media, and client presentations.
The Method
Filming in high-traffic urban areas presented unique logistical challenges, requiring careful coordination to capture footage without disrupting local roads or project operations. The sheer length and scale of the pipeline made it essential to find the best vantage points to showcase the movement process. Additionally, capturing HDD operations in a way that effectively illustrates the complexity of the drilling process required creative camera angles and time-lapse techniques.
The Coverage
By working closely with the project team and traffic management specialists, we strategically positioned cameras to capture the most impactful visuals while ensuring safety and minimal disruption. Drone footage provided a bird’s-eye view of the pipeline transportation, while ground-level cameras captured detailed shots of the trolleys and HDD process. Time-lapse sequences showcased the gradual progress of the pipeline being pulled into place.
The Final Result
The final video delivers a compelling visual narrative of the project, showcasing the innovation and expertise involved in installing the pipeline with minimal environmental and community impact. It serves as an engaging marketing and educational asset, highlighting the efficiency of HDD technology and the skill of the pipelines team. The video has been well-received, strengthening the project’s visibility and reinforcing the team’s reputation for executing complex infrastructure projects.
