TBM Arrival 1 – Sydney Harbour | CREG China Railway (Australia)
CREG CHINA RAILWAY (AUSTRALIA) PTY LTD
Groundlvl was engaged by CREG China Railway (Australia) to document the arrival of the first of two tunnel boring machines (TBMs) shipped from China and delivered into Sydney Harbour. The brief included filming and photography of the marine logistics, harbour entry procedures, and on-site handover at Glebe Island. Deliverables encompassed a 16:9 hero film in 4K, two 9:16 social reels for Instagram & LinkedIn, a full suite of high-res stills for digital and print use, and a dedicated website project page capturing the scale, precision and international coordination of the operation.
The Job
4K 16:9 hero film 2 × 9:16 social reels (Instagram & LinkedIn) High-resolution photography suite for web, print & media use Time-lapse sequences of harbour entry & barge operations Website & press assets showcasing international logistics and engineering
The Method
Operating within Sydney Harbour’s restricted maritime corridor required precise planning and real-time coordination with marine crews, harbour pilots and security. Shooting conditions shifted rapidly demanding adaptive camera techniques and multiple teams working together, Hickson Road Reserve and barge platforms. Our objective was to visually translate the immense scale of the TBM’s arrival while maintaining cinematic quality.
The Coverage
By combining sweeping aerial perspectives with grounded handheld sequences, we balanced cinematic drama with technical authenticity. Every shot was designed to convey the magnitude of the delivery while keeping CREG’s engineering excellence front-and-centre.
The Final Result
The finished production presented CREG China Railway (Australia) as a global leader in tunnelling technology and logistics excellence. The project generated an extensive library of visual assets for digital campaigns, client presentations and stakeholder engagement — positioning the first TBM arrival as a signature milestone for both the brand and the broader Sydney tunnelling program.
