Groundlvl

TBM Arrival 2 – Sydney Harbour | CREG China Railway (Australia)

Following the success of the first arrival, Groundlvl returned to document the second tunnel boring machine — completing the pair of TBMs destined to carve Sydney’s next generation of underground infrastructure.

This second phase expanded the narrative, linking both arrivals into a single visual campaign that captured the full scope of CREG’s international supply chain, precision marine coordination, and on-site assembly under Australian conditions.

The Job
4K hero film + highlight edit 2 × 9:16 social reels for LinkedIn & Instagram High-resolution photography package Drone and ground coverage of dual TBM assembly and handover Integrated website feature combining Arrivals 1 & 2 into a single campaign
The Method
With the second delivery came increased public visibility and tighter operational timelines. The shoot required precise coordination between aerial units, barge crews, and port authorities to ensure safe operations and consistent storytelling across variable lighting and weather. Our challenge was creative as much as logistical — to evolve the visual tone and narrative beyond repetition, portraying the second arrival as a defining moment that signified tunnelling commencement.
The Coverage
Leveraging data from the first arrival, we refined positioning, shot sequencing, and time-of-day planning for optimal visual impact. Drone operations were pre-programmed to match the vessel’s exact trajectory, enabling mirrored coverage that could seamlessly pair with Arrival 1 footage for a unified story arc. We introduced dynamic aerial reveals, extended motion timelapses, and close-range cinematic detail to showcase both machines side-by-side — a deliberate visual strategy .
The Final Result
The final production established CREG China Railway (Australia) as a global force in tunnelling delivery — connecting world-class manufacturing with Australian engineering excellence. The content suite was rolled out across corporate communications, stakeholder updates, and media coverage, setting a new standard for infrastructure storytelling in the harbour city.
