Glass Based Sand Trial
Jonishan, in conjunction with John Holland, Sydney Water and Boral led a pioneering initiative aimed at shaping a more sustainable future.
Currently, the annual consumption of sand exceeds more than 6 times what is naturally produced. This scarcity underscores the importance of finding innovativesolutions, such as recovered resources, to preserve our natural resources for future generations. In response to this pressing need, John Holland and Sydney Water have been exploring the utilisation of a blended recycled glass sand as the bedding material for pipeline laid in trenches.
The blended recycled glass sand replaces up to 40% of natural sand with recovered glass sand manufactured from council curb-side glass recycling bins, providing slight alleviation to the strain on natural sand supply.
